Small Yard Landscaping Ideas
|
Your front yard does not have to be large to
benefit from landscaping. In fact,
small yards have some advantages over larger lawns.
It is easier to unite your front yard with an overall theme without being
repetitious or boring.
Even though your front yard may be too small for
full size trees, you can add height to your garden in different ways.
Many flowering trees, such as the cherry or the dogwood tree, are small
enough to fit in many yards. If you
aren't interested in trees, consider some flowering bushes or shrubs.
A chrysanthemum bush can add beautiful yellow color to your garden while
providing height. Since your front
yard is small, you'll need plants of different heights to give it added depth.
Potted plants are a great idea if you have a
porch. This will give the illusion
of a bigger yard with vibrant colors going all the way to your front door.
In addition to pots that you can set out on your porch, don't forget to
add some hanging pots to the mix.
When choosing plants for your hanging pots, choose flowers that can fall over
the edge of the pot. Visit your
local nursery and choose plants that you find appealing.
Color is the small yards best friend.
A small yard that is simply a lawn will seem drab.
Although you probably don’t want to have every color under the sun,
choose a few colors that complement each other, such as yellow and purple or red
and white. If you don't the time for
gardening, stick with flowering shrubs and potted plants which will require less
effort.
A walkway is essential to a small front yard.
When you have a small lawn, bare spots from walking on the grass are even
more noticeable. Lay some brick in
the heavy traffic areas to avoid this problem.
Don't be discouraged by your small yard when it comes to
implementing landscaping ideas.
Instead, take inspiration in whatever you see and know that small front yards
can be beautiful and full of life.
